The 5 Winning Members' Dining Stories

"Thinking back to the first date with my husband, we shared a dish called "Typhoon Shelter Crab." I was wondering why he was taking me to eat crab on a first date, knowing that there is no graceful way to eat crab. But the fresh and tasty crab meat with its delicious garlic smell made me totally forget about having any grace or etiquette. And we went on to get married! After 8 years, our marriage is still fresh, sweet and rich like the "Typhoon Shelter Crab." This is my best memory ever.

"I was so lucky to meet famous chef, Gordon Ramsay, at an event held by Asia Miles, where I also had the chance to try signature dishes at his restaurant. While he always seems angry at people on his TV shows, I found him to be totally different and very nice in person. Because of his passion for food, we were even more full of joy while we enjoyed our meals.

"In the year of SARS, my friend bought me dinner to celebrate my graduation at Dining Fine. We ordered a dish called "Ignorance is Bliss" out of curiosity, and it was dry-cured ham with vegetables in soup. Although I can't recall all the ingredients, the name of the dish has taught me a life lesson – sometimes it's fine to be ignorant of things so you can relax and live free.

"Feeling exhausted after a long day, I arrived home late at night, long past my family's usual dinner time. My mum brought me some leftovers from the fridge: beef, Chinese long beans, prawns and other ingredients. These ingredients were cut into pieces, dried and then pan fried together with two eggs. She then served me up a hot bowl of mixed fried rice. Before even bothering to change my clothes, I couldn't resist having a mouthful of rice, and it almost moved me to tears. This was the best fried rice I'd ever had. I ate it all and found myself motivated to continue working overtime. To this day, it's a taste I will never forget.
